Wonderfruit is the festival that does not fit anywhere else on this list. It is a four-day ticketed event on farmland outside Pattaya, built each year from bamboo and dismantled afterwards, combining music, art installations, food from serious chefs, workshops and camping. It draws a heavily international crowd and it has become the main reason a certain kind of traveller comes to Thailand in December.
What it is
The comparison people reach for is Burning Man, which is misleading in scale but right in spirit. Wonderfruit is built around temporary architecture โ stages, pavilions and sculptures made largely from bamboo by named designers โ set across open fields, with a sustainability ethos that runs through the whole production.
Musically it spans electronic acts, live bands and ambient programming across several stages, with international headliners alongside regional artists. But the music is only part of it. There is a substantial food programme with visiting chefs, a wellness and workshop strand running through the daytime, talks, and an arts programme that is not an afterthought.
The crowd skews international, design-conscious and older than the Koh Phangan circuit. It is a festival people dress for.
When it happens
Wonderfruit runs for four days in December, with dates announced well in advance.

Know what you are buying
This is a ticketed, built-from-scratch festival with camping, not a free public event. Tickets, accommodation tiers and transport are sold in advance and the better options sell out.
December nights in Chonburi are cooler than people expect, particularly if you are camping. Bring something warm โ most first-timers do not.
The site is large and spread out, built around bamboo structures set across farmland. Comfortable shoes matter more here than at a city festival.
Staying there
Accommodation runs from bring-your-own camping through pre-pitched tents to more comfortable tiered options, all sold with the ticket. Plenty of people instead stay in Pattaya and travel in each day, which costs less and gets you a proper bed, at the price of missing the late-night and early-morning parts of the site.
Camping is the fuller experience if you can face it. The festival runs programming around sunrise that the commuters never see.
Getting there
From Bangkok: The festival runs its own coaches from central Bangkok, which is by far the easiest option and included in some ticket types. 2โ2.5 hrs.
From Suvarnabhumi (BKK): Taxi or pre-booked transfer directly to the site, about ninety minutes. 1.5 hrs.
From Pattaya: The site is inland from Pattaya near Siam Country Club, around twenty minutes by car. Staying in Pattaya and commuting in is a common alternative to camping. 20โ30 min.
What the site is like
The festival is built from scratch each year on open farmland and taken down afterwards. The structures are the signature โ bamboo pavilions, a large open-air main stage, art installations and smaller stages scattered across the fields, most of them designed by named architects and artists.
It is spread out. Walking between areas takes time and the ground is uneven, which is why footwear matters more here than at a city event.
The programming runs well beyond music: cooking sessions with visiting chefs, workshops, talks, wellness and movement classes through the day, and sunrise sets for anyone still going.
Tickets and accommodation
Tickets go on sale months ahead in tiers, with early releases cheaper. Accommodation is sold alongside them, from bring-your-own camping through pre-pitched tents to more comfortable options.
The alternative is to stay in Pattaya, twenty minutes away, and commute in. That costs less, gets you a proper bed and air conditioning, and means missing the late-night and early-morning parts of the site, which are a real part of what people come for.
Festival coaches run from central Bangkok and are included with some ticket types, which is the simplest way in.
What it costs
This is the most expensive festival on this site by a wide margin โ a multi-day ticket, accommodation and transport together run well beyond anything else listed here. Food and drink on site are priced like a Western festival rather than like Thailand.
Set against that, it is four days and nights of programming, and a lot of people build an entire trip to Thailand around it. If you are coming anyway, the Pattaya fireworks in late November and Loy Krathong sit just before it.
Why go
Because nothing else in Thailand is built to this standard, and because it is one of the few festivals in the country aimed squarely at international visitors that is genuinely good rather than merely large.
It also sits conveniently. December is high season with reliable weather, and the site is close enough to both Bangkok and Pattaya to bolt onto a trip without rearranging anything.
