Trang Islands Travel Guide
The Trang Islands are a small group of Andaman islands off the coast of Trang province, best known for Koh Kradan, Koh Muk (also spelled Koh Mook) and Koh Ngai. They offer white sand, clear water and a more relaxed pace than the better-known islands further north. The standout experience is the Emerald Cave on Koh Muk — a short swim through a dark sea tunnel into a hidden lagoon. The islands are less developed and require a bit more effort to reach, which keeps them quieter for most of the year.
How to Get There
Trang is the mainland gateway. The town has an airport with flights from Bangkok (about 1 hour 25 minutes) and a train station with overnight services from the capital.
From Trang, combined minivan-and-boat tickets take you to the islands. Common departure piers include Pak Meng and Kuan Tung Ku. Journey times from Trang town or the airport to the islands are typically 1.5–3 hours depending on the island and connections.
Seasonal speedboats also link the Trang Islands with Koh Lanta, Phuket and Koh Lipe in high season. Once on the islands there are no cars — everything is walkable or reachable by longtail boat.

What You’ll Love Doing Here
Koh Muk is the most practical base for many visitors. It has a real village, a range of accommodation and restaurants, and is the closest island to the famous Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot). Swimming through the dark tunnel into the hidden lagoon is the highlight of the area — go early to avoid the biggest day-trip crowds.
Koh Kradan is smaller and more exclusive, with exceptionally clear water and excellent snorkeling right off the beach. It feels more intimate but has fewer facilities and higher prices.
Koh Ngai is compact and resort-focused, with long shallow beaches that are good for swimming and families. Other islands such as Koh Libong and Koh Sukorn are quieter still and appeal to travellers looking for a slower, more local experience.
Snorkeling, beach time, simple island walks and boat trips between the islands fill most days. Evenings are low-key — dinner, a drink and an early night are the norm.
