November is the month Thailand turns the lights on, and the first entry in the Thai festivals 2026 calendar is a big one. The Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival runs from 3 to 29 November across Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket — seven separate celebrations, five lamp-lighting ceremonies, riverside fireworks on the Chao Phraya, and not a single ticket to buy. Every event is free to walk into.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand confirmed the full line-up on 30 October. If you are already deep in Thailand vacation planning for the cool season, this is the rare festival that slots into an existing trip rather than forcing you to rebuild one: the venues are places you would probably pass through anyway.
All seven dates and venues
Diwali Day itself falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and this is the fullest November line-up in Thai festivals 2026. The celebrations spread either side of it:
- 3 November — "The First Light", Central Bangrak, Bangkok. Opening diya ceremony 17:00–18:00, then live Bollywood music. Activities continue on 4 November.
- 6–8 November — "Lotus by the River", River Park at ICONSIAM, Bangkok. The centrepiece. A Golf F. HERO concert on the 6th (19:00–20:30), the lamp ceremony at 17:00 on Diwali Day, and fireworks over the Chao Phraya at 18:00 on the 8th.
- 7–15 November — "Nine Nights of Candlelight", Central Festival Pattaya Beach. Nine consecutive evenings, with the main Diwali Day programme on the 8th.
- 8 November — "A Sunday of Flavour", Central Patong, Phuket. An Indian food festival on the island's busiest beach strip.
- 13–15 November — "Lamps Along the Shore", Pattaya Beach Road. A beachfront diya ceremony on the 13th, 18:00–19:00, with the Gulf as a backdrop.
- 20–24 November — "Threads of Faith", Phahurat (Little India), Bangkok. The most atmospheric of the seven, closing with a ceremony at 17:00 on the 24th.
- 26–29 November — "Music on the Avenue", Quartier Avenue at EMQUARTIER, Bangkok. The final lamp is lit at 17:00 on the 29th.

Why 24 November is the night to aim for
Here is the quirk that makes this year's calendar unusual. The Phahurat finale on 24 November falls on the same full moon as Loy Krathong, Thailand's festival of floating lanterns, and on Dev Deepavali and Gurpurab. Four traditions, one night, one city — and the reason 24 November is the date to circle in any Thai festivals 2026 calendar.
That means a single evening in Bangkok can take in a Sikh and Hindu lamp ceremony in Little India at 17:00, then a ten-minute walk or one MRT stop to the Chao Phraya to float a krathong after dark. For anyone building a Thailand itinerary around Thai culture rather than beaches, 24 November is the single densest date of the year. Our Loy Krathong guide has the river-pier details.

Getting to each venue
- ICONSIAM: BTS Gold Line to Charoen Nakhon, or the free shuttle boat from Sathorn pier next to BTS Saphan Taksin. The boat is the better arrival — you see the building light up from the water.
- Phahurat: MRT Blue Line to Sam Yot, then a five-minute walk. Going by taxi on a festival night is slower than the train; the old town's lanes seize up.
- Central Bangrak: BTS Saphan Taksin, on Charoen Krung Road.
- EMQUARTIER: BTS Phrom Phong, with the mall built over the station exit.
- Pattaya: Beach Road and Central Festival are a 10–20 baht songthaew hop along the beachfront loop. Pattaya is roughly two hours from Bangkok by bus from Ekkamai or Mo Chit, around 130 baht.
- Central Patong, Phuket: on Rat U Thit Road in the middle of Patong; a Grab or Bolt from Phuket Town runs about 400–600 baht.
Grab and Bolt both work well in Bangkok and Phuket and are usually cheaper than a negotiated taxi fare. Pattaya coverage is thinner, so the songthaews are often faster. As with most Thai festivals 2026 has on the calendar, the train beats the road on the big nights.
What it costs, and what to budget around it
Admission to all seven events is free, which makes this one of the cheapest headline entries in Thai festivals 2026. The money goes on everything around it:
- Food at the ICONSIAM bazaar: roughly 120–350 baht a dish across the regional Indian stalls.
- Phahurat street food: 60–150 baht for roti, samosas or a thali plate — some of the best-value eating in the old town, and a change from the usual Bangkok street food circuit around Yaowarat next door.
- Hotels: November is high season. Expect 1,200–2,500 baht a night for a good mid-range room in Bangkok, and book the 6–8 and 22–25 November windows early.
- Getting around Bangkok: 17–62 baht a BTS or MRT trip; a Rabbit card saves queueing.
- Chao Phraya express boat: 16–33 baht, and the cheapest river cruise in the city.

Building the rest of the trip around it
November is the best month to travel to Thailand: the rains have largely gone, the humidity drops and the sea flattens out. Diwali is a good anchor for a first week rather than a whole trip.
In the capital, pair the ICONSIAM nights with the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and a Yaowarat food crawl — our Bangkok travel guide sets out a workable three-day order. For a free, uncrowded add-on, Sri Maha Mariamman on Silom sits 15 minutes from Central Bangrak.
On the east coast, the Pattaya events give you an excuse to stay two nights instead of one. The list of things to do in Pattaya goes well past the beachfront: Sanctuary of Truth, the Nong Nooch gardens, and the Koh Larn beaches a 30-baht, 45-minute ferry from Bali Hai Pier. See our Pattaya and Jomtien guide and the Koh Larn day trip guide.
If Phuket is your base, the Patong food day works as a rest day between island trips — and from November the Andaman Thailand islands are in their best months. Over on the Gulf side, Koh Kood travel through Trat buys the quietest water in the country, also at its best now.

Practical tips for the Diwali nights
- Arrive 45 minutes before a ceremony. The lamp lightings start at 17:00 or 18:00 sharp and the good standing room near the lamps goes first.
- Dress modestly at Phahurat. The Sikh gurdwara there is a working place of worship: cover shoulders and knees, and cover your head if you go inside.
- Carry cash. Bazaar stalls and songthaews are cash-first, even where the malls take cards.
- Book 8 November dinner. Riverside restaurants with a fireworks view sell out days ahead; the free River Park viewing area does not.
- Expect crowds on 24 November. Loy Krathong plus Diwali means the old town and the river piers will be busy from late afternoon.
- Check the shopping privileges. Central Bangrak, Central Festival Pattaya Beach, Central Festival Patong, ICONSIAM and EMQUARTIER are all running Diwali promotions for visitors.
- Keep evenings loose. Thailand's festival timings shift, so treat published start times as a guide and the venue's own page as the final word.
Free, central, and spread across three of the country's most-visited provinces — the Grand Diwali Festival is an easy yes for anyone already in Thailand in November, and among the most accessible of all Thai festivals 2026. And it sits inside the busiest festival month of the year: Loy Krathong on the 24th, the Vijit Chao Phraya river illuminations from the 13th, and the cool season finally arriving.
